Welcome to The Hospitality House

Hospitality House stands tall as the only overnight inmate family facility within Texas that operates seven days a week. Since opening its doors in 1986, the House has become a vital link between Huntsville’s Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmates and their loved ones. Currently, the House welcomes families for visitations and executions in addition to releases, marriage seminars, hospice visits, and funerals. In recent years, the current Executive Director, Debra McCammon, has been able to extend the House to new heights through innovative methods, and the facility has been updated to meet the present day needs of our families. Debra has held the Executive Director position since November, 2009.

In 2011, Edie Wells began the program in partnership with the Hospitality House, an overnight inmate family facility. During their stay, they are invited to express themselves through the process of making art. Local artist/builder, Dan Phillips and many volunteers, created a whimsical art studio space to expand the program. Students from Sam Houston State University volunteer their time and energy to provide care, mentoring and hope for the children of the incarcerated and their families.

  • It was pizza night!! People are friendly and nice. Fish are cute! Hospitality House gives me a room to sleep in before I visit my dad – that way, when I wake up I know I will get to see my dad soon. I like that they give us back packs!
